Discussion of both innings
India bowling attack
India extends lead over Pakistan to11-3 in T20I. This is the first of three Asia Cup matches in which India have defeated Pakistan by seven wickets. The match was completely one-sided because Hardik put Pakistan under pressure by dismissing Saim Ayub on his first ball.
India’s attacking bowling proved to be positive for Pakistan. Pakistan forced the batsmen to play shorts that were more risky. Only so that they could improve the run rate. Despite this, no score could be made in 63 balls in this innings.
The run rate per over was only higher in the last over of the innings. And India got a target of 128 runs and this target was very small for a team of this caliber.
Kuldeep Yadav took 3 wickets, Jasprit Bamra and Axar Patel took 2 wickets each. While Hardik and Warne Chakravarthy took 1 wicket each. It seems that there was no let-up in India’s bowling.
Hardik and Bumrah strike early, but Farhan fights back for Pakistan
Hardik attacked before Bumrah and his attack was successful, but he got a wicket on the first ball. In the next over, Mohammad Haris tried to put pressure on Bumrah but he was unable to do so and was caught by Hardik at long leg. But at the end of the powerplay, 42 runs for the loss of 2 wickets was a struggling score. This moment proved to be the last moment of effort for Pakistan. beacsue it did not go well for them in the match after that .
“India’s spin grip”
Kuldeep Axar Warne’s spin bowling trio closed all the ways to score runs after the powerplay. It took Pakistan 31 balls to score their first bountry after the powerplay. During this time, only 12 runs could be scored and 2 wickets also fell. Both these wickets fell to short bowlers who must have been playing in frustration and got out Fakhar Zaman and Salman Ali Agha.
Both these wickets fell while trying to play long shots, but now Kuldeep started to thwart defensive shots as well. His googly dismissed Mohammad Nawaz on the very first ball (golden duck), and Kuldeep got on a hat-trick.
Pakistan’s woes are summed up by the fact that their best-looking batsman Farhan entered the death overs with 40 runs off 43 balls, but as soon as this phase started, he was out on the very first ball. After that, Shaheen Afridi, with his brilliant batting, snatched this honour from Farhan. He played his personal best 20 innings by scoring 33 runs off just 16 balls and gave Pakistan some hope.
Abhishek and Gill seal India’s chase, end Pakistan’s hopes
Pakistan’s small hope was quickly dashed when Abhishek went ahead and hit Shaheen for a four and a six on the second ball, and in the next moment, Shibman hit Saim for two consecutive fours. Saim took revenge by dismissing both the openers, but by then India were on 41 runs in 3.4 overs.
India themselves struggled to score runs openly after the powerplay, but the difference in quality between the two teams was still clear. Pakistan’s bowling did not pose as many difficult questions as India’s, and India’s batting was able to score runs consistently.
Only 39 runs were scored in the seven overs immediately after the powerplay and Tilak Verma fell, but India’s position remained strong. All that was needed in the end was a small push, which was given by Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, and India won the match with 4.1 overs remaining.
